Boys boys boys -

My daughter is a freshman (?freshwoman) at Smith. She went to a co-ed high school and has three brothers. She took a summer writing program at Bryn Mawr and found that she actually enjoyed an all-women’s learning environment and the close friendships she could make (her roomate from that summer goes to Bryn Mawr and they still keep in close touch). She visited Smith several times during her senior year(we live in D.C.) and was thoroughly convinced it was the school for her. She has been extremely happy there and from what I hear she has had a good social life at Smith and some of the surrounding colleges. I have yet to hear her complain about the absence of “boys…er men.” She has an outgoing personality so that has helped her socially. I also have found that she has been able to enjoy her academics in a way that she was not able to in high school (despite 12 A.P. courses). As a parent, I am excited that she is passionate about learning and college life. It has been a wonderful match for her but I think the best way to find out is to stay overnight, particularly on a weekend.
