I am so confused about why he is under fire for publishing the tweets - how is it illegal or against journalistic ethics to include those tweets, which I presume were essentially public, in an article. He is simply taking stuff that is openly on the internet and putting it in an article. Right? What 1984 are we living in here?
And why is the Brandeis community so reluctant to scorn the ice-hearted comments of the police-hater? Free speech is sacred, but that in no way prohibits criticism of the content of her messages (obviously!). Are they actually afraid of being accused of being racist??
What about freedom of the press and the journalist’s free speech rights?
As someone who ends up on the left end of the spectrum 90% of the time, I really cannot quite grasp what is going on here with this hall of mirrors.
