I thought I would post a follow up. I have discovered Go Lean shakes by Kashi. I mix the powder with vanilla soy milk. It adds up to over 300 calories, so not a bad breakfast. I know that my daughter will get sick of it, but so far so good. I still wish she didn’t have to go from 6 am till 12 without any other food, but it sure beats the days of 2 pieces of dry cereal. It also has a decent amount of fiber. Thanks again for all the good advice.

candace, my son adds protein powder to get a little more “staying power” from his shakes. He also adds wheat germ sometimes or even Citrocel for fiber. If strong enough fruit flavors are added the vanilla soy milk isn’t bad. He even does one with the vanilla soy milk, pumpkin pie spice, canned pumpkin and a dash of honey.

The other thing he adds is dehydrated egg white for protein. Think he gets that from the GNC store and online.

Would your d eat an English muffin? Thomas’s Light Multi-Grain muffins are only 100 calories, but have 8 grams of fiber. I generally don’t like multi-grain breads or muffins, but these were actually quite good!

If she won’t eat that, have you tried any of the flavorless, textureless fibers that dissolve in any kind of liquid, like Benefiber? I add it to my coffee or juice and don’t even know it’s there. It really is tasteless.

Chedva, a multi grain english muffin sounds yummy to me, but my daughter says that she just can’t eat anything before 6 am. I am happy that I found a shake that she will drink. I tried adding fruit to it but that made it taste worse. So, for now, this will work. Mkm, the pumpkin spice sounds good, maybe I will try that.

Our shakes are high on protein, from pasteurized boxed liquid egg whites (not the ones that have yellow coloring in them - just whites).

We add any combination of flavoring, such as:
- fresh orange (include the membrane)
- fresh or frozen strawberries
- fresh or frozen bananas
- fresh or frozen blueberries are superb source of fiber
- ground flaxseed is great for fiber
- raspberries are good fiber
- sometimes dash of vanilla, or almond extract
- cocoa and mint extra is good, but not high on fiber
- frozen banana, small pnut butter, cocoa powder is delish, but not high in fiber

If your smoothie is lacking in protein, it’s likely that she’ll be hungry before lunchtime. The protein balances out the carbs, and will hold her.

HTH

silk soymilk called very vanilla my daughter likes with blueberries, crushed ice, strawberries and a bit of oj.

I like silk soy chocolate lite soymilk with bananas, strawberries, crushed ice.

akmok crackers w/ natural peanut butter and honey(schmucker’s makes it) will carry your d to lunch. I try to make sure my son d/n go more than 4 hours w/o something to eat while at school.

If fat isn’t a problem try coconut milk (Not the cream used in pina coladas. It’s the kind used in thai cooking). It adds great texture and subtle flavor to the usual fruits.

thanks for all the good suggestions. Cornfed, I wish that my daughter could eat something between 6am and 12, but she says there is no time for snacks between classes, especially the incredibly slow way my daughter eats. I have tried sending snacks but they never get eaten. I drive her to school every morning, so at least I know she is drinking her shake on the way. A sit down breakfast is not an option. She says she just can’t look at food so early in the morning. Shrinkrap, I have never tried coconut milk. Fat is definitely not a problem. The more calories the better! And thanks mtpaper, I will keep trying different blends.

I actually talked to the school and arranged for them to allow our son to eat during his guided study. He physically could not tolerate food at 6 am . I put it in terms of his health b/c he became so weak going until 12 noon. The school agreed to accommodate him. Of course the teacher who is his most lowkey was the one who let him eat. I know it is a challenge and I hope someone will also help your daughter in this way. I realize between classes isn’t an option b/c passing time is a fiction.
