Breaking news: Harvard disgraced on America's Next Top Model!

bumping just for fun and intellectual value

One of my (male) law partners and I share a birthday…I am 50 and he is 61. He just concluded a phone conversation with “Bye bye kid.” I guess that’s better than “girl”??..

The ANTM season opener was repeated last night. I saw the interview with Ms Harvard. There’s no way to pretty it up - it was as bad as advertised. When asked about a heroine from literaterature she said she “didn’t pay attention in those classes.” She looked completely befuddled when Tyra asked her about Jack London. Maybe they caught her off-guard, she thought they’d ask her about modeling, but when someone asks you a basic question - or a couple of basic questions - about the subject you just MAJORED in at an Ivy League institution… ouch. She didn’t survive the cut to be on the show.

Exactly. ANTM is the champion of blatant editing for their own dramatic purposes. But this young woman wasn’t the victim of editing (like I think Miss Yale was last year.)

Of course, it’s probably a no win for the Ivy league. If she had given an brilliant, insightful answer, they probably would have replayed it over and over again to make her sound like an elitist know it all.

this was in post #8 on this thread. I do not know about the truth of the matter…

She at least claims to be an Ivy grad. But there are several Ivy/Harvard blogs asking if anyone knows her and no takers yet.

Are there any pictures of her on-line? I haven’t seen her, but seems like any woman spectacular enough to be a contender in some sort of super-model show should be well-remembered at a school the size of Harvard College –> ~6600 students. The people in her own House should definitely remember her.

emailed a Harvard Junior who is a friend of DS’s just for fun and he was not aware of any alumni/students on ANTM. He actually watched the program and did not recognize her. He thinks she probably enrolled in extension courses at some point possibly. It’s a small community and she would be known if she was an actual graduate. “Reality” shows are known to be dishonest and scripted if truth be told.

Back to the “girls”/“gals”/“women” for a moment — actually, I think most young women refer to each other as “guys”, as in “you guys!” I’ve never heard any of them say “you girls”. Unless they’re speaking to just one, as in “Girl, I can’t believe *** was trying to talk to you!” The only people I’ve ever heard use “gal” have been older people(generally men), and by that, I mean older than me (past their mid-century mark!) And this may be unfair, but I’ve always associated it with a patronizing tone, which is why I find the word objectionable.

If you google “ANTM Susan Harvard” you can find a picture. She is said to look a lot like Hillary Swank.

I also just read that she is 23 or 24, so she would have graduated several years ago. (I think they said on the show that she “just” graduated from Harvard, but I wouldn’t be surprised if that wasn’t accurate.) If she did graduate 3 years ago and has been employed in another field, that could partially explain why she couldn’t rattle off info on Literature.
