@“Youdon’tsay” Wow! I am so sorry! You are right, I didn’t! Here’s the update:
I had my surgery on 6/25, so I’m a bit over 6 months out at this point. It all went great and I have absolutely no regrets at all (except the typical regret of wishing I had done it sooner). Surgery was on a Monday and by Friday, when I had drains removed, I was feeling really well. I didn’t have any complications from the surgery. Scars are still noticeable but they have definitely faded and are flat and pale pink. Post-op sleeping at first was a bit of an issue - lots of strategically placed pillows - but not too bad. Pain was manageable; I took the prescribed Percocet for just a couple of days then switched over to Advil. I am self-employed, so I blocked out the two weeks after surgery with no appointments, but I could have easily gone back in one week (with a lighter than usual workload though). I am happy with the size and the “lift” that goes along with the reduction, but the one downside is that my mid-section is more noticeable now; I didn’t realize how much my large chest masked that. Eeek. Working on it though. Other bonus is that my chronic neck and shoulder pain is GONE. I had actually grown so accustomed to it that I didn’t even realize how bad it was until it was gone.
Overall, I am thrilled and would do it again in a heartbeat. As a bonus - although I had to pay co-pays for the hospital, anesthesiology and pathology, insurance paid the entire doctor’s fee so the cost wasn’t bad at all.
I’m happy to answer any questions to anyone who is considering this…feel free to PM me!
That’s great! Sounds like it went really well. My friend also is self-employed so maybe she’d like to talk to you about that. I’ll show her the update, and if she wants to talk I’ll try to be a conduit.
Hard to believe this summer it’ll be 24 years since I had the procedure. Still really happy that I did.
Did you find that your doctor accurately represented to you what the finished appearance would be like?
@“Cardinal Fang” - Regarding size, I think he was accurate in that he did not make specific promises but instead listened to what I wanted and said he would try to get there, keeping my proportions in mind as well. I don’t recall his exact wording, but I know that he didn’t promise me an exact size before surgery. From my reading on the website RealSelf.com (the college confidential of plastic surgery!) I think that most doctors don’t commit exactly. I expressed to him that I wanted to be much smaller than my current (old) size, not bigger than a C, though smaller would be OK too. I ended up with about a C and I am happy with that. As far as other appearance (scars, etc) he did not sugarcoat it and I ended up being prepared for what I would look like immediately post-op as well as long term appearance.
@“Youdon’tsay” - that’s fine with me - happy to answer any questions she has. To be clear though, although I am self-employed, my health insurance is through my husband’s company (if that’s what you were talking about).
