Note that this was a referendum without legal force; it means the British people currently want to leave the EU. Cameron will be replaced and they’ll form a new government which will try to negotiate an exit from Europe, a long and complicated process. They may succeed, or they may fail and get voted out and replaced by another pro-Europe government. In the process the Brits may change their minds as the catastrophe unfolds. It’s not a done deal.
Bloodbath? You say po tay to. I say po tah to.
It’s a buying opportunity.
Not just the uncertainty in the markets. If the DJIA opens considerably lower, the stop/loss computer programs of the large investors can be triggered, and the slide can quickly become an avalanche.
and yes it is a buying opportunity-- I’m trying to figure out where the best bets are…
" If the DJIA opens considerably lower,"
IF???
its now down 708 in premarket…
“and yes it is a buying opportunity-- I’m trying to figure out where the best bets are…”
When you figure it out, will you let us know? It would be nice to balance out some of the hemorrhaging!
"and yes it is a buying opportunity-- I’m trying to figure out where the best bets are… "
Safe bets: staples with not too much EU or GBR exposure. McCormick’s spices are always a hit when people stop going out to eat, per Comrade Lenin’s great grandnephew, Mr. Cramer.
I’m thinking Amazon at 490.
Looking at some pharmas… Not touching any tobacco co’s - the majority of the consumers are in Europe and Asia.
The EU needn’t worry. It was planning to add Turkey anyway. All will be well…
I would NOT go into Google , or Facebook , since Germany is NOT their friend and wont be if this Brexit holds up
Turkey by Thanksgiving or bust!
maybe the Canadian $$ as it is so cheap.
“Looking at some pharmas…”
Too much chance that drug prices will come under pressure from both US and Euro regulators.
imho
I wish I could pay in Euros to take the advantage of the exchange rate! Those boutiques do not let you shop in currency other than $$ if they have to ship to the US. They quote you your prices in $$ if you say you are in the US. I sometimes pick EU and drool… Bummer. Seriously, the pumps I am drooling over are 30% cheaper (pre-Brexit) than $$ price. And that is WITH the VAT!!!
I’m flying to the States in 2 weeks via AMS. Gotta see if I can change that routing to via LHR.
I wonder if all the hotels will be booked up?
62% of Scots voted to remain. The Scotsman newspaper is reporting that Scotland will seek a separate, ongoing relationship with the EU. There is also a suggestion that a follow-up referendum on Scottish independence might be held, resulting in a break-up of the UK. Among other things, England would lose its oil revenues if this occurs. The fallout from Brexit will be enormous, and ongoing.
700 last I heard.
The pound has crashed down to its 1985 value.
