^^^^that wouldn’t fly in my place. No tours.

And in order to really get the gist of a “bring your mother to work day,” which I realize is satire, she would need to follow me to understand what it is that I do. I’m pretty sure that my patients would really not appreciate this, as I work at a GI lab, and while doing preop are asking about their medical histories, and in recovery room are dealing with post anesthesia and post procedure issues, which are generally not the kinds of experiences people want to share with complete strangers who have nothing to do with their care.

Unfortunately, these days you probably wouldn’t be able to do that. Many schools have a no-homemade-food-allowed policy due to the large number of children with nut allergies.

Son teaches at CC just blocks from where he grew up and H & I still live. So actually I would be givng cookies to “adults”. Doubt the CC will have a bring a parent to work day or that son would invite me.

My younger son is waiting to hear about an important job he interviewed for last week. If he doesn’t get it, I will want to call the Company and ask why not.

But, I won’t do so. I’m bad, but I’m not that bad.

I loved the part about the mom who complained to the SVP that all the other new hires got the colored paperclips and her son got the metal ones.

We got to tour SIL’s neo-natal intensive care unit a couple of times. H nearly passed out.

My grandparents went to see my D1 after she was born ( in the NICU). By the time they came to see me in my room, my grandpa was white as a sheet & clutching the side of the doorway. :(

I think touring medical facility is different than touring a school. (for the lay public)
I am surprised they gave tours to anyone but family. The nurses didn’t like it when I looked at the other babies when visiting, especially during procedures. ( but I would sit with her for 14 hrs a day- I felt so bad for the babies who rarely had anyone visiting)

I have toured other places where she worked, including her own elementary school when she was taking a year off while in college.
That was great fun, although it looked quite a bit different as they had added another building. But the same teachers were still there & they were so excited to have her.

H is an OB/GYN. Our three kids were miserable every year on “Take your child to work day”, when they were practically the only kids in their classes at school.

That wasn’t such a big thing in our area.
H works in a factory & you have to have security clearance to be on site, so we have never been. They did used to open a different factory on weekends for family/community open house, but I haven’t heard anything about that for years.

I do remember going to see my dad in his office though. I thought that was a lot of fun, because I got so much attention. ( which was rare- I was the oldest- but a girl)
