Job/Work Experience: none
Volunteer/Community service: Hospital volunteer (360+ hours), STEM + ASL + geography volunteer teacher for preschoolers, science fair judge for preschoolers, member of 2 youth committees that worked to expose younger students to STEM and leadership (again, I have to be vague because these are things you can search up and identify me)
Summer Activities: they’re all up there
Essays (rating 1-10, details): Okay, so here’s the breakdown: my common app is a 7/10 but once I submitted my essay for brown, I did a ton of revisions. The rest of the supplemental essays sucked. Honestly, I thought they were good, but looking back, I’d rate them a 5/10. Or a 6/10 if I’m feeling generous, which I’m not.
Recommendations (rating 1-10, details):

Teacher Rec #1: 9/10, I read this one.
Teacher Rec #2: 10/10, we were tight
Counselor Rec: 8/10, honestly, she and I had a close relationship but I feel like she’s not good at these.
Additional Rec:
Interview: I did a video portfolio which I don’t recommend. It’s easier, more fun, and more effective to do an interview.

Reflection

Strengths: I don’t think I had any. My test score was okay, but looking back, I can see why they rejected me, as crushing as it is.
Weaknesses: My essays. They could have been a lot better. Since then, I revised everything I wrote, and I can confidently say that the rest of my essays for other schools were awesome (but I’m biased lol), but my Brown ones SUCKED. I cannot believe I ever submitted those. My grades were also not there. I went from a 3.8 sophomore year all the way to a 3.5 because Junior year was a train wreck. KNOW YOUR WEAKNESSES PEOPLE (don’t double up on math if you struggle in just one class). I had no subject tests. My overall application was just crappy. And my video portfolio was cringy.
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: all the reasons above.
Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected: I’m writing this 3 months after I got my decision, so I was accepted at Urbana and St. Olaf, waitlisted at Macalester, and I’m waiting to hear back from the rest.

General Comments: I’ve always wanted to write one of these lol
