Brown Class of 2020 Early Decision Discussion

you should, but after you finish submitting your other apps - don’t waste time on this when there are more important things to do.

I imagine it’s pretty similar to a waitlist interest letter. This is what I wrote in 2007 about the letter I submitted in 2005:

Now on to the letter. I’m basically going to go through and explain what the goal of each of my paragraphs was. A quick point though is that the letter must be ONLY ONE PAGE.

Open the letter with some cheesy lines about how even though you’re a little disspointed about not getting a spot, you’re still pleased that you’re under consideration given how many competitive admissions is. Mention that you would enroll upon admission ONLY IF THIS IS TRUE.

I then went on to describe how academically Brown was a good fit for me and I was a good fit for Brown. I mentioned how Brown was one of the only schools with both an excellent Biology and Classical Studies department, and how my extremely diverse curriculum in high school matched well with the philosophy of the New Curriculum at Brown.

Given that I was applying as a science student, and there is a stereotype among admissions officers that science students will hole themselves up in labs and not work together because they’re competing for medical school spots. The next paragraph I spent highlighting all the things I did as part of a group.

Then I mentioned other extracurricular activities I had done, particularly ones that I expected to continue doing at Brown.

I then concluded with a sappy line about how I hoped they would admit me but untill then I’ll just dream about sitting on the main green in front of faunce arch (or insert any other campus location) with my fellow brunonians.
