Essays (rating 1-10, details): Common app -> 10, told my story about learning computer science online, searching for an internship, building my science project and ISEF, and ultimately my internship. Brown Specific: 9/10, most were pretty good, told anecdotes about managing debate team, growing up in a foreign country, and my work experience. I found a couple typos in both applications, nothing major, but an extra common or missing period here and there,

Recommendations (rating 1-10, details):

Teacher Rec #1: comp sci teacher 9/10
Teacher Rec #2: AP english teacher 9/10
Teacher Rec #3: Physics teacher 10/10 (came with me to isef, in his physics c class as well, great relationship)
Teacher Rec #4: Photo 1 teacher 10/10 (great relationship from the start)
Counselor Rec: 10/10, she said she knew I would get in if they read my recomendation.
Additional Rec: Boss from first summer internship, brown Alumn, knows me really well and vouched for my experience
Additional Rec #2: Boss from second summer internship, reinforced points my common app made, and validated my science project as legit
Interview: Went really well, but I had it yesterday because the other interviewer had a medical emergency and never contacted me. I don’t think it could have played a part in admissions because the deadline had passed, but maybe it got through.

Other:

Applied for Financial Aid?: Yep, got none
Intended Major: Computer Science and Cognitive Science
State (if domestic applicant): Virginia
Country (if international applicant):
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: Filipino American (whasian baby)
Gender: Male
Income Bracket: 100,000-125,000
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Lost my father at the age of 11, I dealt with mental health issues, pretty cool science project

Reflection:

Strengths: Extra Ciriculars and letters of recommendations, I think they carried me. My essays were pretty solid too!
Weaknesses: GPA could be better, and I forgot to talk about my AP Scores!!! Also I had typos. Goes to show that they look at the application as a whole.
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: My science project, my big microft win, and my emphasis on self education probably pushed me over the edge.
Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected: Accepted at Fordham University,

General comments:

YAY! I’m so glad it worked out, I had the most butterflies i’ve ever had right before checking. I had typos, I forgot to list my ap scores, and I had a lower gpa, so I know they look at the application as a whole before making their decision!
