what’s the best way to get to new york? amtrak seems very expensive.

haha, wow, people weren’t kidding when they said i’m infamous, but yeah, facebook is such a joke, i don’t take it seriously, if i’ve friended you liek 10 times and been rejected all ten it’s because i know about 1/10 of you guys maybe, and now that i’ve come this far, it’s just that there’s not turning back and i’m working an 8-4 job mon-fri that allows for insane amounts of boringness and free time… and anyone who honestly thinks facebook should matter, really people? it’s not a joke? really, you’re going to tell me it does something?

the cheapest way to NY is by bus–greyhound has a particularly good deal if you travel with a friend (you can split the fare)

bonanza is bit more expensive, but is more comfortable and gets you there faster

sometimes, for the same price as amtrak, you can get a deal on a flight going out of TF Green or Logan

As for work study, the fact that it is meant to go towards your tuition is a bit of a misnomer because the way it is paid to you has nothing to do with your student account at all. In short, you receive paychecks, and that’s basically it. In theory, the idea is that you will then take the money that you earned and put it towards your tuition, but it pays, in essence, just the same as any job. How you want to use it is up to you (and maybe your parents/guardians if they are paying the rest of your tuition!).

It is, from what I’ve seen, fairly easy to get a job on campus if you are interested. The work study kids are the only ones who the University mandates have a job available for them, but in most cases, if you want a job on campus and take the time to seek it out, you can get one–it’s just not designated as work study. People work everywhere from the libraries to the campus eateries to the big dining halls to catering services to the bookstore and more.

Soo… how’s Keeney. Got my assignment today, I’m in Bronson.

Hotpots are fine. NYC can be reached via amtrack or a bus than runs from kennedy plaza - bus is much cheaper. Boston is even cheaper because you can take the commuter train. Keeney is a great dorm, has a gym, great location, and a third of the freshman class. I described freshmen dorms earlier in this thread so if you want a general idea about them its there. Any specific questions on dorms I’d be glad to answer.

Hey, I was assigned to Andrews and my room number begins with a 0. I think that Andrews has 4 floors, so does this mean that my room will be in the basement? Are basement dorms usually dingy? Thanks.

Yes and not necessarily. I’ve never been to that floor in Andrews, but in Keeney the basement rooms were fine, although the windows suck.

HEY my room # begins with 0 too!
Don’t tell me it’s a basement…

Yuck! This stinks.

It’s not a basement. Andrews is on a hill. On one side, 1 is the ground level, on the other side, 0 is.

Is 0 on the basement in West or East?

just a quick question-in regard to scheduling last year courses in high school…am debating between AP Bio or AP Psychology. If I get a good grade on each, will they exempt me from a social science requirement or a science/lab requirement? don’t want to take something that won’t do anything for me in college, if I have choices. Thanks

Bio will give you credit if you take a Bio class that’s above it.

In my opinion Andrews is one of the best freshmen dorms at brown. I believe floor “0” is really the first floor, but I could be wrong. Sorry i haven’t been around to answer questions recently, I’ll be back in action on monday.

MtM… you post like a fiery madman. Bad summer job like me?

Okay, I found out I’m in Emery. How is it? Is it true there are no lounges? Gracias!

Can you tell me what you know about Bronson?

I stayed in Emery-Wooley (can’t remember which one) during ADOCH. The room I was in had been converted from a lounge, so maybe that’s what you mean, Liquidpaper. And that room was much bigger than other normal dorm rooms on the same floor.

Does anyone know which room numbers in Keeney Quad are the rooms on the 3rd floor with window seats overlooking the courtyards? (I believe they’re in the shorter hallways that are part of Archibald and Mead…) Unfortunately, Brown no longer has dorm floor plans online.
