***BS/MD Interview Notification for Class of 2013***

Even some 8 years require the MCAT- Brooklyn/Downstate needs a 30 and a 3.5. Honestly, if you can’t get a minimal score on the MCAT, you should not be applying to medical school anyway.

texaspg, Other programs such as drexel give you 3 chances at MCAT before the 3 year ug. But then drexel does not require you to interview at the medical school again so can take the MCAT till April of the third year.

@TheBombingRange. MCAT requirement of 30 is reasonable. But just one attempt at it, does not allow much margin for error.

@retro22 I agree, one attempt is not really reasonable. BC lets you have 3 attempts.

Many of the 8 years do require MCAT (I suspect this is the norm). However, taking MCAT during a 4 year degree will be no different than taking it during an 8 year program, with a lot less pressure since no interviewing or applications are needed for admission.

Most people wait until after 1st semester of third year to take the MCAT since it takes people that long to complete the material in college needed to do reasonably well in MCAT. In a 4 year combined program, they are not under any pressure and can wait until summer after 3rd if they dont plan on applying anywhere else to take MCAT.

Temple 7 year program is unique in that they need one to finish MCAT, go through the interview process to be admitted to med school etc. So it shortens the prep time for MCAT.

UT Austin 7 year also has an interview process but they do not require MCAT. However, they admit more than there are seats which means they will be forced to take MCAT anyway to apply through the regular process.

texaspg, very nicely put. This is exactly what separates Temple from others.

Since there is an interview involved at Temple, we were told that any MCAT atttempts more than two does not look good on the medical school application and you may not make it, even in a 8 year program. What I am not sure is whether you can attempt twice for a seven year Temple program. Once in September of Junior year and then again in January.

So then what is the point of the Temple program?

You make 3.5 GPA and 30 MCAT in one attempt, you are in a 3+4 medical school program. You make 30 MCAT in second attempt (which is reasonable), you are in a 4+4 program. Temple is a good medical school. It may not be that easy for you to make medical schools with those stats. Plus the hassle of medical school applications and the uncertainty is eliminated. You know exactly what to get and where you are going. Although, interviews are required, if you meet the numbers, it may not be a deal breaker.

do you guys know when drexel/drexel and lehigh/drexel are coming out?

Hey guys! I have a question! This was brought up on another thread, but it got be thinking. So here is my situation: when i applied to villanova undergrad (along with the first ba md application) i sent in a 31(which i took in september) as my act score. When i applied to drexel and lehigh undergrad (and the first ba md app for their schools) i sent in a 34 for my act (which i took in october). I did not resend my scores to villanova until after i was contacted for an interview for villanova/drexel at drexel med. Does drexel med combine the application for each undergrad school (like UMDNJ does) or is each separate? I’m worried that my 31 was in my villanova file. Not that it makes a difference now, but i just want to make sure it won’t affect my drexel/lehigh app. (im going to call the school to confirm tommorow), but anyone have any thoughts?

So the Temple program really doesn’t have any guarantee? What happens if you get a 30 and a 3.5 but don’t do so well on the interview?

@mistryse13, drexel has 3 files for you. Three different admission committees. You should be fine.

^^ That is a risk but unlike UT, it is not due to restricted number of seats (more students accepted for fewer available seats) but more like they are ensuring your fit to medical school. Rather than assume that they are weeding people out, it is important to ask whether anyone has been denied at that stage after meeting the requirements.

Thanks retro22! Well, I feel better about my other programs but I really wish I had confirmed before hand.

Accepted to VCU GMed!! Congratulations to everyone else who was accepted into this program. Does anyone know roughly how many applicants they had and how many were accepted?

My D is also accepted to VCU GMed! I believe 60 were interviewed and 20 were offered admission. Congrats to all and don’t lose hope yet, more announcements to come!

rejected vcu ): i dont know what happened my interviews went very well i am quite shocked. this was my top choice. im so depressed now

Still haven’t heard back from Rice/Baylor. Anyone know when the interviews come out?

Retro, just to clarify, Drexel requires a 29 on the mcat (9v,10bs,10ps) or a total 31.

I have been accepted to both the 7 yr. Villanova/Drexel Program as well as the 7 or 8 yr. Temple Med Scholars Program. These are (hopefully) going to be my choices:

Villanova/Drexel
Temple/Temple
W&J/Temple
Brown Undergrad
Drexel/Drexel
Rosemont/Drexel
SLU Med Scholars
Johns Hopkins undergrad

I know this is wishful thinking (assuming I’m going to be getting into all these programs and schools), but I would like to get a feel of what others think where I should be going. I am stumped right now, but mainly between Nova/Drexel, Drexel/Drexel, W&J/Temple, Temple/Temple, and Brown Undergrad. Any choice ranking along with “why?” thoughts would be very much appreciated.
