*** BS/MD Interview Notification for Class of 2014***

Thanks, @IMGDAD and @nexus55.

From what I heard, Baylor/UT Houston students buy something in order to get in state after 1st year. Interesting to see it can be an advantage for the second son!

Texas residents who can do well in college have it easy in getting into med schools in Texas. There are also many non-resident students who are Baylor who attended Rice.

Need advice between RPI/AMC and Case Western (no PPSP) but $22K/year Scholarship. My son is sure he wants to be a doctor.

Then it’s pretty obvious he should take RPI/AMC. My D was in same boat 2 yrs ago and is happy at RPI.

Can anyone PM/message me if they got into the Texas Tech UMSI Program?

@midhelper. Thanks for your advise. My son accepted RPI/AMC. Is it possible for my son to talk with your daughter. if yes, please let me know how to PM. Thanks in advance.

@texaspg I just had a quick question. Do you think that if I attend the Texas Tech UMSI Program, my residency matches in the future will be negatively affected? For example, will I not be able to get admission into any top residency programs/specialties? Thank you.

I see Texas Tech students doing well usually (I don’t know if I only know the really good ones). I noticed that Texas tech’s residencies are being taken up by foreign trained doctors while their students seem to be ending up in other locations. I met someone recently who is at UT Houston for internal medicine and I have known someone for a while who is doing radiology residency in a reasonably well ranked school.

St. bonaventure / GW 8 year med with no MCAT or Miami 7 year med?? please need opinions asap

I just finished high school! I got into NU HPME and Brown PLME, and a couple others, so if you want any advice or help, I’m totally free, so just PM me

^ Congratulations. Where are you going and why?

I will be going to HPME ( as the screen name suggests). I chose HPME because Feinberg is a better and more established medical school in my opinion. The medical campus in Chicago is second to none, and I have more freedom in HPME considering I have an entire year to decide what I want to do with it. Brown seems like it has successful matching, but does not do as well in competitive residencies as Feinberg

Does anyone without perfect stats get in? I have good stats 3.85, 2300, good ECS, but they aren’t perfect. Can i still get into a 7 year program?

YES! you definitely can. I think once you’re at a certain academic level, programs look at your ECs and essays more than who got a 2280 vs 2400. So work on those essays and do some reasearch/shadowing this summer and you’ll be fine

@texaspg I recently got into the UTSA FAME 7 year BS/MD Program at the last minute. Which do you think is a better option: Texas Tech UMSI or UTSA FAME?

From what I know both medical schools are fine except for the locations. SA is more urban while Lubbock supposedly makes people feel they are far away from everyone. I feel Texas Tech might be a better undergrad school, especially if someone is interested in engineering/business before med school.

My son got admitted into Rice from waitlist. His brother was a Rice-Baylor student and is in Baylor Medical College. He has to make a decision between RPI/AMC which he has already accepted. What is your advise between RPI/AMC and Rice undergraduate?

Congratulations !! Is he in the Rice - Baylor program ? That program is good. I would guess better than RPI/AMC.

@ajaysingh, No he did not get into Rice-Baylor. Just Rice for undergraduate. What would you do in this situation.

Maybe you can ask your son as to what he wants to do…for sure pursue MD or maybe have something else in mind. If he feels he has to pursue MD, then the question is he will need to take MCAT after Rice. Based on his opportunities available now, I am sure he can take MCAT and get a good score and then go to MD too. Once he goes into MD, will Rice education be more beneficial or RPI education ? I think having a good GPA from Rice plus good MCAT score will help him land in a med school as good as Albany or better.
