Business at cornell

Well, the 8 courses things assumes you have AP econ. Otherwise you need 10. So at least 1 course a semester.

I have no idea why the requirements are this lax. Sometimes I wish they made things more rigorous… would certainly weed out more people. :)

how many courses in general does one take per sem
in canada, usually 5

That’s your decision. At minimum you need 12 credits a semester to count as a full time student (3-4 classes). I usually do 18-22 credits (4-6). Since you’re not charged by credit, mind as mine the most from your tuition.

what percentage of students do the bare minimum - 12 credits?

i dont know but i’d recommend it if you scored below a 1300/1600 on the SAT and/or have never had an AP class (esp if you didnt get a 4/5)

You can go into “business,” broadly defined, from any major. That includes AEM, Econ, or Chinese Language and Literature.

If you wanted to take courses more obviously germane to business, like marketing, accounting, and finance, then AEM is likely a better fit. If you wanted to take courses related to the economy and public policy, and are comfortable with integrating more mathematics (eg calculus) and statistics into your material, than choose Econ.

Also, you may consider double majoring. Econ majors often double-major in government or math. Even if you don’t double major in Arts, you can still take business-related courses at AEM and other departments.

Another thing to consider are distribution requirements across schools. For example, Arts has a language requirement, and (I think) more required distribution courses.

thanks guys!
