Ugh - my sympathies. Another vote for wet vac and fans.
In college, I rented a bedroom in a house that had a flood in the basement. I’ll never forget the look on the face of the cat standing on the basement stairs watching his litter box float by.

My basement flood story happened over 20 years ago. It was Christmas Eve at about 5 pm when the hose to the washing machine broke and flooded parts of the basement. We didn’t have a wet-dry vac at the time. We called Rickels (remember them) to see if they had one. They did - we literally told them don’t close until my husband gets there and buys one. I think they had it ready for him when he got there. There wasn’t much damage (mostly a very wet rug). The closest call was that all of Santa’s gifts were in the basemen,t but luckily in a big plastic bag (so they didn’t get wet).
Many, many years ago, we were at my SIL’s house for the first night of Passover. There were about 30 of us and it was pouring rain out. A retaining wall gave way, and the basement got a good bit of water. While the men were trying to get the water up as best they could, my son, who was 5 at the time, was sitting on the steps watching. After a few moments he exclaimed with delight, “This is the best Passover ever!”
