Buying eyeglasses online: Good or bad idea?

notrichenough. That is the company I used and have had no problem with them at all. Now they even have the thin lenses and they are a fair bit more expensive but still less then 25% of going through a normal glasses shop

Although I love a bargain, I cannot imagine buying bifocal or progressive lenses online. The level at which the different correction is set is so important. There’s nothing worse than having to tilt your head to see the TV or computer - it’s annoying and also causes neck strain. If you do try it, you should definitely take the glasses to your doctor to get the prescription checked before using them. Twice I’ve had to have glasses remade when the position of the different prescriptions wasn’t right.

That said, I will definitely check out some of these sources for my D’s single vision glasses. Thanks.

Mafool, this is what I read about the frame sizes:

To help you with frame fit, many times you’ll find a series of numbers on the inside of the frame, something similar to 50.18.140, for example. Those numbers represent, respectively, lens width, bridge width and temple arm length.

These measurements are in mm at 25.4 per inch. I’ve found that sometimes manufacturers make the same style in more than one size so you have to check this out carefully.
