CountingDown, it’s such a silly little thing, but everyone I show it to loves it – as do we!! We’re doing laundry more frequently because of it!

Has anyone bought a major appliance off eBay? They are significantly less expensive, even when “new in box.”

My 42" side-by-side SubZero with wood panels that match our cabinets doesn’t have an have or water dispenser. It’s 10 years old though, maybe they don’t make that model any more.

My BIL bought a fancy stove on eBay, it worked out well for him. I think he was able to pick it up though, and I don’t think it was new.

We had Blinds To Go quote some window treatments, I couldn’t believe how much they wanted.

notrichenough, Blinds to Go is literally half the price that Hunter Douglas quoted. So we feel like we’re getting a great deal!!

I’m going to be scouring eBay. I think it’s probably possible to get a good deal, if one is careful. I still have to do more research, though, to figure out exactly what I want.

I’m copying Thumper’s dishwasher choice, though. I’ve heard nothing but positive things about Bosch.

I’m sure hoping this Bosch is terrific. It has gotten good reviews here. I spoke to a friend and she likes hers a lot but says the inside seems smaller than her old dishwasher. My model supposedly takes 14 place settings…there are only two of us!

We have friends with a subzero without ice in the door. Theirs also has wood panels to match the cabinets. Maybe it’s the stainless models that all have the water/ice.

@thumper1: We have two Sub-Zeros (one in a vacation home) and neither one has an ice maker in the door. I didn’t think that was an option. Both Sub-Zeros make ice, but that all happens in the freezer area. We’ve had one model for 10 years; the other for 5 years.

I wish I could say I love the Bosch dishwasher in our new house, but I just don’t. It’s quiet, cleans great but is very awkward to load and doesn’t hold nearly as much as the Miele (I loved!) in our old house. I don’t know if it’s me or our dishes and glasses, but I just can’t get a lot in it and it allegedly holds 14 place settings…ha! . It’s only 3 years old and I’m seriously considering replacing it. Hopefully your dishes are a much better fit.

I looked at the Miele, and really could not justify the price. There are only two of us living here now. The six of the Bosch should be fine…the NEXT owner of the house can get a bigger one! We have thin, small dishes too…not stoneware width.

When we bought our house about five years ago the builder had just installed a SZ side-by-side 'frig with ice & water in the door; it has the wood panels to match the cabinets.
He claimed it was their newest model (but then, he made a lot of claims…)

My parents bought a new cooktop from [US Appliance: Low Prices on GE, Maytag, Jenn-Air & More Home Appliances; Refrigerators, Stoves, Ranges, Washing Machines, Dryers, Microwave Ovens, Dishwashers](http://www.us-appliance.com/) a while back. They said it showed up with no problems, and it cost $400 less than any local store. So far we’ve only purchased a washer & dryer (Best Buy) and a range ( Search: a> [Page 1] | Appliances Connection; ). Waiting on the dishwasher until we do our kitchen remodel a few months down the road (no room for it at the moment :().

The Bosch is a bit smaller inside than our last dishwasher, but it works fine for us. Even when the guys and DIL are here, we can still get everything in. Price was consistent with other models in our price range, but the Bosch had better ratings. We got ours at Lowe’s for under $700 inc. tax.

Our big gripe about the last two (non-Bosch) dishwashers we had was that we constantly had mold and other nastiness on rubber gaskets and staining on the inside walls of the DW. Suspect it was a drainage issue that our plumber fixed when he installed the current one. Internal design is also a bit different so that stuff doesn’t collect where the door opens, and the interior is stainless so now we don’t have stains. We have 29 yo thick stoneware and can fit it in the racks.

I am not terribly fussy about how this stuff looks and am not inclined to spend $$ on tippy-top appliances (esp. not in a kitchen that is as dated as ours). We did check ratings on Consumer Reports, Lowe’s, Home Depot, etc. I look for reliability and mid-range price.

We used to have a Bosch dishwasher and we really liked it. It died the year we failed to renew the extended warranty. The one thing I did not like about it is that it was so low to load. I am fairly tall and we adjusted the feet all the way up.

We bought a Miele as the replacement and I really like it even more. The silverware are laid on a slide out rack above the glasses so no more reaching down to load or empty. It was very pricey but for us worth it.

I count my lucky stars that I was not on vacation when my Bosch DW leaked water all over the maple floors in front of it (and it was not even running!) - water just kept coming out of it… So no more Bosch DW for me! I really hope they installed some sort of a leak prevention device in their newer models. I like the Miele’s silverware tray, too!

I’ve been quietly following this thread with a lot of interest, since Mr B has been thinking of downsizing and building a custom home. The memories of the horrors of our last move are still fresh in my head… Good luck to all CC remodelers!

Bunsen, I’m having a wonderful time. The closings didn’t go as smoothly as they should, nor did the move (and then there were the three nights we slept on the floor . . . ), but now that we’re in the new house, I’m loving it.

I’ll love it more when I have my new kitchen. :)

While we are discussing appliances…S and DIL finally finished negotiations on their house, and should be moving in a month from now! Believe it or not, their bid was accepted the last Saturday in September…and since then they have been negotiating over defects found in the inspection. Every time they thought negotiations were wrapped up, the sellers tried to re-negotiate. Sellers’ realtor finally had to sit them down and say he would no longer represent them…and also reminded them that the same defects would be discovered by an subsequent purchaser, who would also expect those defects to be remedied.

So…need recommendations on what they should be looking for in a stacking washer/dryer? They can fit a full size stacking washer and dryer, if that makes a difference. What should they look for/stay away from?

The silverware tray in the Miele is what sold me on it. It’s very efficient and works extremely well. Silverware always get clean. If I’m loading the dishwasher, I’ll place the same utensils next to one another on the tray so that I can just grab them all at once when unloading. The best thing I did in my kitchen was to put the silverware tray right next to the dishwasher.
