There would not be any AP math type courses other than calculus AB, calculus BC, or statistics. I.e. there is no such thing as AP precalculus or AP trigonometry.
Ok, I was about to say you were wrong, @ucbalumnus - but I stand corrected. You are right! I asked her, the class was Advanced Trigonometry and Pre-Calculus. School website confirms it.
I’m an Ohio kid (wait this is the parent’s forum- sorry!) and I can say with confidence that she’ll most likely be admitted to OWU and Ohio U- and likely with merit aid at OWU (in my experience with friends and family they are generous with money to high stats students)
Our D is in HS and took a class called Honors Pre AP Calculus this past year. It’s a Pre Calc course designed to prepare you for AP Calc. It’s not an AP course. Ohio U. is a very high match if not a safety for your D. Bowling Green will be a safety and likely offer the better scholarships. Will your D need Physics for her intended major?
No, she will not need Physics for her major. She will need Statistics, which she is taking next year as a senior.
Wouldn’t all high school precalculus courses be intended to prepare the student for calculus (whether an AP course in high school, or a calculus course in college)?
When S was in hs, his teacher indicated that there just wasn’t that much “precalc” material to learn and that she’d be through H Precalc material by Feb/Mar. At that point she’d move on to calc. If student thought they were grasping this material then they should consider AP Calc BC. If they were struggling then they should consider AP Calc AB.
