CA residency question : Parent job prospects and student in over 18

If you were to move with our student who is joining the university as freshman in California and is over the age 18
Can a student change his residency to instate after 366 days of establishing residency of the parents
Student will be on dependent status of the parents and family is planning to move together cause of new job prospects
Any insight will be v helpful.

Basically can student change to instate status after a year while student(over 18) is joining as Freshman OOS This is a permanent move for parents with proper job and house and license etc.

I believe parents will be considered residents from day 1 if they have job/house/license.

Thanks !

There is a HUGE difference between being a “resident of CA”…and your kid being a resident for instate tuition purposes.

If it were me…I’d contact the specific college…and ask.
