In the past years and for my Basic, it used to be that they had a few cadre from the squadron you’re going into and the rest were from others. I can’t speak for the Academy on why it was changed, but I do know that this year every single cadre working a flight is from those basics’ Ac year squadron.

As for the selection, once the AOC (Air Officer Commanding) is chosen for a Basic squadron, he/she picks the cadres from a group of applicants. Then those cadets go through a pretty intense training with the real TI’s (Training Instructors) from Lackland. There’s also an OI (Operating Instructions) test that every cadre has to take, and if you fail you cannot work BCT.
