Cake or cupcake and what’s your favorite flavor?

Does cheesecake count as a cake?

Hmmmm. Questionable. But as it’s definitely not a pie, I think it’s just about ok.

Coconut is my favorite, but there are some I like and some I don’t. It’s what I always choose for Mother’s Day and my birthday.

Vanilla or orange cream would be next or perhaps cheesecake if that counts for this thread.

Chocolate I can tolerate if I have to eat it - Devil’s Food is the best of those.

Peanut butter I can’t stand at all.

ps Coconut donuts are one of the few types of donut I like. Most I can’t stand. There’s just something about coconut that appeals to my taste buds I guess - unless it’s coconut shrimp. That I pass on going for “regular” shrimp.

Cheesecake Factory has a dessert that’s a combo of carrot cake and cheesecake. I think it has about 7000 calories and I haven’t had it in years, but I remember it being yummy.

@Creekland, I’m with you on coconut donuts. And coconut cake is well-loved in our household.

I love carrot cake. Or hummingbird cake. I love a cake that had “extras” in it like raisins/nuts. I do not love cream cheese frosting. I prefer my carrot cake to have a good vanilla buttercreme.

Besides that, it’s more about the frosting than the cake. Eating your average cake - like chocolate or white or whatever doesn’t do a lot for me unless it’s REALLY moist. A dryer cake isn’t worth the calories. A good frosting on the other hand is worth ALL the calories.

I also like doing a bundt/tube type cake that is dense - either a chocolate with a chocolate frosting drip or a tart lemon cake with tart lemon frosting drip.

This thread is the best.
But now I’m thinking of what bakery(ies) to hit up this week. :birthday:

Ok, I always find out how non-typical I am. I rarely care for any frosting on a cake and will often cut it off to give it to someone else just eating the cake. I’d buy them unfrosted if it were an option.

I also don’t like frosted or glazed donuts and any poptart I consume is the unfrosted variety.

Coconut is, of course, an exception.

Creekland, same! I’d also go for a homemade chocolate ganache.

My D and her friend used to make “naked cake,” because they didn’t care for frosting! But give me a carrot cake with really decadent cream cheese frosting, and I will eat more than I should.

I rarely buy cakes or cupcakes from bakeries, because their frosting is disgusting. But mine is fine, especially the ganache. I can just eat that straight.

I tend to agree with you when it comes to “regular” frosting, but I LOVE cream cheese frosting.
If I’m being honest, I have to admit that within my house 4 of us have finished off a carrot cake with frosting within 24 hours. THAT’S 3 CUPS OF SUGAR.

Baked Alaska with Cherry García (instead of Neapolitan). Yum!

So funny…when I have cake or cupcakes, the first thing I do is scrape the frosting off. I like the cake part, but not the frosting.

@thumper - I’ll be glad to take the frosting off your hands and not let it go to waste. Especially if it’s buttercream
