California colleges w/ programs for teaching [high school or middle school math, transfer from Vermont]

Does she have any AP calculus credit that can help reduce the behindness on math for a math major?

Even if not, with careful planning, it may be able to “catch up”. For example, at CSU Chico (see Mathematics BS | California State University, Chico ), a semester by semester plan can include (based on prerequisite sequencing and fall/spring offering of each course):

  • Semester 3 (8 units for math major):
    • MATH 120, CSCI 111
  • Semester 4 (10 units for math major):
    • MATH 121, MATH 235, MATH 305
  • Semester 5 (13 units for math major):
    • MATH 220, MATH 330W, MATH 350, MATH 341
  • Semester 6 (12 units for math major):
    • MATH 420W, MATH 333, MATH 346, MATH 342
  • Semester 7 (6 units for math major):
    • MATH 449, MATH 337
  • Semester 8 (math major requirements complete, can be used for any delayed courses):

In addition, 2 or more units of MATH 195 and/or MATH 241 are required and can be taken at various points in the above schedule.

However, the EDTE and related courses for the teaching credential would be another 48 units to fit into the schedule, so that would likely extend the time to BS in math + teaching credential beyond the 8th semester, since some of the space not used for math courses would be needed to fulfill CSU’s extensive general education requirements.

This might be a scenario where a student decides to complete their bachelors without the credential, then adds a one year dual credential/masters program afterwards.

Your D might want to look at the University of Redlands. Redlands has a highly respected School of Education and it looks like they are still accepting applications for the fall.

I am a Redlands alum. It is a great small school that tends to fly under the radar.
