Berkeley and UCLA will always survive, but they won’t be as good as they are now or in the previous years if these budget cuts continue. Before the budget crisis, both Berkeley and UCLA were on the constant rise in US News and World Report rankings and also other rankings - even passing numerous privates. But now their rankings are around the same. Berkeley is ranked 21st again for the third year in a row according to US News, and UCLA only moved up 1 position to 24th this year. I worry that if the budget crisis worsen into next year, the rankings might drop.
