Calling all desis, everyone come...

Just wondering, in all of your schools do you have a big indian population? Do you hang out with other indians?

In my school there are quite a few indians, all of us are friends but we arent like we only are friends with other indians.

in the phoenix metro area, there are only 11,000 or so Indians to 3 mil total, but it feels like a lot more because it consists of several massive webs where everyone knows a lot of people, who themselves know a lot of other people, and so on. My school has one of the largest concentration of Indians/South Asians- at least 30-50 out of 2800 students, but there may be more I don’t know.

I personally have 2 sets of friends- Indians and non Indians. Its not that the other Indians dont have lots of other friends, its just that they are mostly 1-3 years younger than me (1987 must not have been a very popular year for desis to have kids), so their friends are different from mine.

there are like NO other indians where i live…its an extremely white populated area…i sometimes consider myself white, its funny…kinda like an oreo.

To shoo_shakin,
My thread title meant that every desi should come, not all the white people or other racial group. Sorry for the ambiguity.

bumpish…

one more time…

“kinda like an oreo.”

lol my relatives think I am soo white-washed! (But I’m NOT!!) They call me “coconut!” =p

I’m not indian (sorry) but I have always been fascinated by your culture hehe  my mom’s from malaysia so I got a lot of cultural exposure. :P

bande mataram!

From Kerala here, born and raised in NY
I can speak Malayalam fluently, which seems to surprise many people who don’t expect to hear an American kid speak their language (which, I agree, is a rarity). I didn’t even notice it was cool to be able to switch from Malayalam to English easily until people started wondering how I did it.

Indian food every day is great :D

White represent!..i think they don’t know what zhindabaad means…who agrees?

fellow ABCD joining the board…gujarat all the way! 10 desis at my school, best friends w/one…pretty close w/most of others
completely in touch w/culture

i love all these desi threads on every forum…good showing…!!!..i’m from u.p…moved to the u.s 3 years ago…go to a small public school with only 3 other indians in my grade…friends with all three…i’m really proud of my group of friends though…indian…chinese…bangladeshi…nigerian…a lot of representation…

The sad thing at my school is that there are so many indian guys but very few indians girls. Well atleast a few of the indians girls that are at my school are kinda hot. What bout you other guys out there?

Hey I am from California. a junior in highschool and want to do medicine sometime in the future. Came to US in 8th grade from AP(Andhra Pradesh).

There aren’t many indian girls in my school but I know a lot from my local temple.

I go to an all boys school, you guys have no right to complain

we have no hot indian girls. we have 2 indian girls tho but they’re not hot. they’re busy taking 9 aps.

lol why is there such a stereotype of the indian kids in your grades…i think its kinda amusing actually, like wrathofgod64 said…“they’re busy taking 9 aps”
because even though i do take a lot of aps and hard classes…i still always find time for partying and concerts and just hanging out…so just to inform you, we’re all NOT like that! lol

Jat punjaban living in Ca

oh and at our school its like what wrathofgod complained about except with boys at my school

paki =)… but raised in USA… i want to major in Biology or some type of science.

who has strict parents… raise ur hands.

raises hand
