Calling income tax gurus?

To claim non-NY residency, you have to be prepared to not have any connection to NY. Your driver’s license, car registration, voter registration, all your credit card, bank statements etc. have to be mailed to a non-NY address. You cannot be physically in NY for more than 6 months but you can own a home in NY.
Some of my friends who are retired have to disassociate themselves from California to claim Nevada residency to avoid CA income and estate tax. They live in Nevada for 6 months and a day but they live in CA the rest of the time. In that 6 months and a day, they can’t be traced they were in CA, that means no credit card receipts showing they spent any money in CA during that time.
