<p>Great Lakes Mom: I think the 50% support rule will be tougher than the student rule for claiming him as a dependent if he has a real job in China.</p>

<p>I don’t think finding a tax professional familiar with the Form 2555 will be expensive, just tricky. I believe even H&R Block Executive services would be familiar with it.</p>

<p>And I am in the midwest. Although I lived overseas for many years.</p>

<p>As he starts working in Sept, that is less than 50% of the year. Is not a high paying job. I can just go into H&R to ask at some point. </p>

<p>My dad, now deceased, lived overseas for many, many years, was thrilled when he stopped having to pay US taxes on a large chunk of income. Good to know the form number. Again, thanks.</p>
