I can’t share private FB groups with strangers on here, thus my suggestion if that if you actually knew people IRL who live in area, to use them, they can vouch for you, etc.
OR if you are part of some community, like a college group, etc. go there. Many colleges have “Alum group of Boston” or whatever…
Also, assuming this is for a college student, they should reach out to their own alum group and their career services center for ideas/leads…
I got housing for an internship that way…
Thanks. I actually found some FB of Alumni in Boston. We will see would it help. It looks pretty dead. Last post is a year ago. About one post a year…

I would tell her, but I doubt career services will give tips about housing in Boston. There are no linked Boston programs at her school.
I was looking for housing myself many moons ago in Seattle from Atlanta…
They do have Alumni group in Boston… so maybe we can get some leads there…
My daughter needed housing for 2 months last summer in Boston post-graduation. She eventually found a place for sublet through a BU apartment board (but not BU housing). It was pricey, but literally she found only one place. Beware of scams - if something looks too good to be true, it probably is. She was almost taken by a scamster that was using a real local realtor’s name and the listing looked legit. Good luck.

There are so many scammers, usually low rent is a big giveaway, especially if they insist on getting a deposit sight unseen.

Yes, they wanted a deposit to “hold” the apartment for her…when she received the bank wiring info from the scammer, she realized something was off.
Since I will be helping, I hope that I will not fall into a trap. But in my life I literally did only 2 rentals: one for summer in Seattle and our first year in DC area… So my experience is very limited. In both cases I was working only with management companies of apartments and had never been to a place before moving in…
Both were many moons ago and prior to FB and even Google existence…
I do. Believe it or not…it’s worse than Atlanta…in a different way. If possible, have your kid live someplace where the good public transportation can be used for day to day. A car might be nice for a weekend jaunt to NH, for example. But I would not suggest driving to work in Boston.
Yes. Really a window unit in the bedroom is enough.
My BU grad subletted his apartment three times and all to people like your daughter. Unfortunately, he no longer lives in Boston, so can’t help with ideas.
I’m assuming you contacted all of colleges in the area to see if they rent their dorm rooms. I know BU used to, and others too.
Really? career services doesn’t help with non-program internship stuff? They don’t connect to alums? or have lists of housing in various cities for students? That is surprising to me, but I sometimes forget my experiences have been with very well resourced universities so may be that that isn’t typical for others…
BU internship housing with AC is $511 a week… So it is more than 2k a month…
Without AC (no window unit) it is cheaper but i am a bit worried…
Part of the problem is also summer break at some schools does not necessarily match my DD’s summer break to work…
We are talking about huge public. It does not help even with housing in Atlanta (currently absolute nightmare with no guaranteed housing for upper classmen). So I really have low expectations in that area.
Has your daughter found a Facebook group for her college alums? That would likely have some parent aged members who might know of something.
I did as I mentioned before. It is very “dead” community with one post a year… But we will try…
@TomSrOfBoston any suggestions?
Do not even think about a car. Parking is astronomical and the traffic is terrible. Unless the internship is in a suburb (Needham, Framingham) where the most cost effective thing is to sublet a suburban apartment and drive- living in one of the core neighborhoods with good public transportation is the way to go.
Has your D looked to see if she knows anyone from her HS at MIT, Harvard, Northeastern, Emerson, BU, BC? If so, they will be able to connect her to the “informal” rental market in Boston… a kid just needs someone to cover their rent for 10 weeks while they’re backpacking in Nepal, so doesn’t want the hassle of letting the landlord know, getting a lease, etc. Many of the fraternities/sororities have informal summer “squats” (arranged in advance- you show up, you get shown to an empty room, you pay by the week).
Anyone from your hometown going to be in Boston for the summer? It can be easier finding a sublet for two than for one, since many of the Boston college kid apartments have multiple bedrooms…

HS will not work. She attended some tiny school. Job location is Cambridge.
Ask around. For all you know one of your coworkers knows someone who knows someone!
