Good question as I would be interested in this as well. Namely, how much if any drinking in the dorms, vs frats, vs off campus? Pot use?

What do students do for fun? Do they stay on campus on weekends?

It would be good if a current student or recent alum could respond on this.

I have read many guides and have visited the campus for a day, so I’ll answer what I can.

I have not heard of a hard line ban on alcohol such as at Gordon, Wheaton (IL), or BYU.

SU’s literature says 2/3 of the student body does community service. One third participate in varsity sports. The literature says the schools runs bus trips to NYC and Philadelphia, and brings in concerts, etc. One quarter are Greek. The surrounding area looks bleak for entertainment IMO.

It seems to me that the SU administration has gone to extraordinary lengths to set up a nice environment for the students, namely the student center w/ pool tables, movies, etc. and the recreation center (gym) - you won’t find one any better. The dorms are very nice and the Honors dorm is incredible.

Apparently some faculty live in the Honors dorm as well. So I would imagine its pretty straight-laced, mature life there.

All the buildings are new or refurbished since the late 80s, most in the last 5 years. The grounds and buildings are impeccably maintained. The insides of the buildings are spic & span clean, shiny, and polished. I don’t see evidence of the students defacing the property, etc.

One thing I noticed was that all the parking lots around campus were quite full. I wonder if most students have cars, and whether they are leaving campus on weekends.

Twelve miles away is Bucknell with a similarly lavish campus, but it seems to have out-of-control drinking problems among the student body. Lewisburg would seem to be an ideal LAC college town, but apparently the town residents aren’t getting along w/ the drunken rowdies from BU.
