Both my older kids wanted small schools. My middle really liked Clark and they came in with a surprisingly competitive financial package. In the end he picked a larger school but only by comparison to Clark. Was size a factor in his rejection of Clark? He was surprised at how small the campus was but it didn’t bother him because it was in a city. His current campus is 5 times the physical size but sort of needs to be because it’s plopped in the middle of a residential suburb. He chose his school for the programs and particular opportunities but Clark was high on his list of possibles come decision day. It’s a cool little school.
@eb23282 : Interesting post. If you attend the small university (1400 plus students) that I think you do, it is important to note that it is located in a gorgeous, sophisticated town within easy commuting distance of major US cities and that, I believe, you are on an athletic team.
My daughter went to see American University. Even though it is a good size, population wise, she thought the campus was way too small. When she has seen schools with large, sprawling campuses and too few students she felt they were too quiet. It’s been about finding the right balance for her: space to roam and stretch out, but lots of activity and energy. Not so easy.
My daughter was less concerned about size and more about facilities. I was concerned about size but it all worked out.
American also felt way too small to us.
