Campuses good for biking

Withdrawn! I think this is the exact point of this discussion, and I am happy to replace our brief impression from a visit with a more informed take.

Brown certainly has much else to recommend it! I take it your S24 was not able to resist its siren call in the end?

My son always said that the first 2-3 weeks of classes at Stanford are the most dangerous with new bikers unaware of protocols.

He was not!

I actually love Brown academically for him, and I also think the campus and setting are great for him. After visiting, he had been turned off a bit by his impression of the vibe, but we discussed how that was probably one of those cases where maybe our tour guide was having an undue influence. I think he was also persuaded by some friends who really like Brown–I think it gave him some comfort that he would find similar people there.

So yes, Brown made the final cut, and I think maybe it could end up very high on his list in the end.

Now there is just that pesky getting admitted issue . . . .

Anyway, I will break the news to him that maybe he should plan on it more being a walking campus. He will survive.

UCSB and UC Davis

University of California -Davis. The whole town is bicycle friendly. Davis is the only city in the United States that features a highwheel bicycle in its city logo . Davis is regularly named as the most “bicycle friendly” town in the United States by the League of American Bicyclists and various publications.
And, if you are not into biking around town, you have nothing to worry about. There’s a whole bus network -Unitrans, a student-operated system. Undergrad students can ride for free both the Unitrans buses as well as the county buses that go to Sacramento, the airport, and other points beyond the city of Davis.
Amtrak also has a station in town if you want to take the train to many other places.

I sent you a DM.
