Hey, WM! That was a closely guarded secret!

Nancy, what are your major interests? Hmm…I just looked at your OP and that’s quite a bit of diversity in your choices. TheMom is a director-level manager at UCLA and has worked there for more than a quarter century (it sounds so long when you put it that way) and it’s very good school but very different than Wellesley/Smith. Both TheMom and I started out being biased towards larger reseach universities and had our minds changed through the search/application process. There are some interesting trade-offs but I think that you can have more net opportunities at an LAC. Certainly my D wouldn’t have had the opportunities she’s had if she had gone to Yale, which was her EA choice (not admitted). I’ve often heard that Scripps is the Smith of the West Coast, by intention.

D is almost deliriously happy at Smith, said that she can’t imagine having gone anywhere else. She is, though, in the “happy but tired” camp…picked up a take-home Math final yesterday…she had clocked 27 hours working on the mid-term (lowest in the class was 21) and this looks to be worse.
