Can anyone please explain why Olin is more difficult to get in than MIT?

mootmom,

Thanks for your honest insight. I totally agree with you. Nevertheless, Olin, at least stat-wise, is harder to get accepted to than any other school. Look at [Top 20 Schools for Highest ACT 75th Percentile Scores](<a href=“USA University College Directory - U.S. University Directory - State Universities and College Rankings”>Top 500 Ranked Colleges - Highest ACT 75th Percentile Scores)

I do not dispute that, kaman. I think we’re in violent agreement on this one. :)

Someone asked about cross-admits who chose MIT and I thought I’d pipe up.

Post #41:

Caltech isn’t on that list? I don’t believe it then.

The ACT statistics are not a good proxy for fine distinctions in the overall difficulty of getting into a college, especially at the high end of the distribution of colleges that mostly have applicants who submit SAT scores. As I’ve mentioned earlier in the thread, Olin enrollees appear to have similar baseline aptitude credentials, but MIT (and Caltech) enrollees would tend to have much stronger extracurriculars and post-high-school-level academic backgrounds. The premise of the original post is a bit flawed.

tokenadult,

Take a look at [Olin College : Admission : Applying to Olin](http://olin.edu/admission/applying_to_olin.asp)

for different class profiles. You will be surprised.

I’m sorry, what did you want to know about Olin?

pebbles,

No need to be sorry. On the contrary, your posts have helped me to understand a few things about some of the people who attend, or don’t attened, each school.
