can i get financial aid in america for undergraduation.

There are no safeties for international applicants requiring significant FA.

@pagalhum11

You want “safe” schools? Well…how much can your familynpay per year…because a safe school is one where you can feel assured of admission, like the school, AND can PAY to attend.

While community college in the U.S. has les costly tuition, it does not have less costly housing. In addition to the tuition costs, you can anticipate about $12,000 a year in room/board costs. You will also need transportation money, and money for personal expenses including books. It’s very unlikely you will get ANY funding from a community college in the U.S. as an international student.

So…how much can your parents pay annually?

guys !!! thanks a lot for your replies .
my family income is 10,000 dollars per year and i am planing to take loan once i get in a college .

You would need a scholarship that covers everything. I do not know of any scholarships like that. Perhaps the people art EducationUSA do.

@pagalhum11

Where do you plan to “take a loan” and for how much? You will NOT be able to take loans out in the United States without a U.S. citizen as a qualified co-signer. At all. $0.

With a $10,000 income, your family really can’t help you pay for college…at all, right? This means you are really looking for full funding. This is not easy to come by even for U.S citizens, and is less easy to come by as an international student.

Even colleges that meet full need often expect a student contribution…which can be a couple thousand dollars. As a non-citizen, your ability to work while attending college here on a student visa will be significantly restricted.

In addition to looking for colleges here, I would strongly suggest you look for colleges in India.

Also look at Universities in Europe.
Your basketball performance would help for the US, not europe. However in Europe your test scores would matter a lot.
Look at German and French programs.

10k a year is comfortable in India, right (not rich, but doing ok, perhaps having a vehicle and a cleaning person or cook) ? Can your parents spare 2-3k for your studies?

Note: we say “undergraduate Education” not “undergraduation”

Will banks in India loan you $200k+ for you to go to college in the US? That sounds unlikely since your family can’t qualify to cosign that much and the Indian banks might fear that you’d never come back to India to pay back the loans…and you’d be out of their reach to get their money back.

“my family income is 10,000 dollars per year and i am planing to take loan once i get in a college”

As others have said, you will not be able to borrow enough to attend university in the US unless you get nearly all of the cost covered by scholarships. This is quite unlikely.

With a family income of $10,000 per year, just the cost for things like a winter coat and boots would be a major expense for you. A laptop would be very difficult to afford. Your annual cost for books would be a significant percentage of your total family income. Travel costs would be very significant also.

thanks for your replies!!
i talk to my parents they told me that they can contribute around 6,000 dollars for education in usa . i dont know german and french , so i cant apply european colleges . please tell me if there are some scholarships based on sat score

$6000 total? That’s $1500 a year…which will barely pay for your transportation.

If it’s $6000 a year…are you really expecting your parents to pay more than half of their annual income for you to attend college? That is not reasonable.

You need a FULL RIDE…and again I say…these are not particularly plentiful for U.S. citizens at our colleges…and they are even less so for international students.

Are you looking at colleges in India…that are affordable?

I think you and your parents did the math wrong.

You need $6000 X 10 per year for most schools, minimum ($60,000 were year).

There are no safeties, for international students who need funding-no matter how much you think you will be an exception.

You keep asking the same question, but the answer is not going to change. There are no schools that will throw tens of thousands of dollars at you based on one test score.

The cost of college for international students includes more than just tuition, room, and board. They need money for travel, health insurance, and personal expenses. I think $6,000 seems low for all of that. You really need to find a financial safety.

Your safeties, like most US students from low income families, are the colleges closest to your home. Are there any schools in India that are affordable for you? If so, you should apply there. Students who neglect to apply to a real financial safety are often shut out and have to take a gap year and start the application process all over again. Are you applying to any colleges in your country?

India’s higher ed system is different from the US system and there may not be any commutable possibility for OP.

You need to increase your test scores to improve your odds. 1480 is superb but unfortunately many Indian applicants have high scores too :frowning:

Yes there are colleges with full rides but they require slightly higher test scores and/or are not known in India. Some are HBCUs.

With a 1480 you can get full tuition scholarships at UAlabama, UMiami Ohio, some HBCUs.

@MYOS1634

A full tuition scholarship isn’t going to help this student. It will still leave room, board, travel, personal expenses and books to fund which can easily top $12,000 a year.

Where is THAT going to come from?

This student needs a full free ride.

Alabama has changed its awards to a fixed dollar amount @mom2collegekids can explain. Miami University in Ohio has NO guaranteed scholarships…at all.

The HBCU scholarship structure has changed over the past years from automatic to competitive scholarships. There are very few full ride opportunities

I didn’t mean to imply that those scholarships would be automatic. I’m giving OP examples of possibilities and amounts.

There are many schools in the US that will take you, but with a budget of $6,000 total and no loans available, there are none that you can afford to attend. That’s the unfortunate summary of the situation. In addition to those expenses Thumper1 listed, you must buy health insurance (estimated at $3,000 per year), visa and passport fees, bedding and stuff for your dorm room, a laptop computer, gym, library & laboratory fees, and probably a whole lot more I am forgetting.

Put together a spreadsheet. Go through this thread. Type in all the expenses that each poster listed. Multiply each by four years of schooling (except for laptop and dorm supplies). Figure you can $10-$12/hour at a campus job (one of the few that will be available to you on a student visa) and work 20 hours a week.

You got a high enough SAT score that you can do the math. But get your head out of the clouds and actually DO the math.

OP - Many European universities teach their courses in english. Not to mention the schools in the UK.

@momofsenior1 can you plz tell ke those colleges .
