The app shows a lot of unique passions and talents that Stanford values. For example, the original poster said she was a “national level competition champion” in figure skating. In a recent Stanford newsletter, they highlighted the fact that one of the accepted transfer students was a figure skater, implying it is something they highly value, even though they don’t have a team (they do have a club). Stanford also makes a big deal about the number of students and alumni they bring to the Olympics and number of medals won. If there is a decent shot of making the Olympic team, it would obviously have an influence. How does this degree of subjectivity become a 5-10% chance? I don’t know what % chance she has of being admitted, but it’s certainly high enough to take the time and effort to apply.</p>
