Can I Get Into Yale With A Slightly Low GPA Freshman Year?

My school doesn’t report unweighted GPA or rank, but my weighted GPA is about .15 below Yale’s average.(I got my data through Naviance). I will have to work extremely hard but I think it will be recoverable. I think my class rank is around top 5-10 in my class of about 270-300. I know that I could be an above average student at Yale however I had a difficult time adjusting to high school. I am going to apply with an average/slightly below average GPA but I will have taken 13 AP classes (I have planned my entire high school schedule). I just want Yale to recognize that the reason my GPA isn’t above average is because of freshman year, and that I have improved since then.

My school is a pretty competitive public school, usually top 3 or 4 in class are accepted to Ivy League.

I like Naviance, as it takes into account other acceptances from your high school and will give you a good idea if your GPA and test scores are within a specific college’s reach.

While an upward trend is admirable, Yale looks at your GPA from freshman year through junior year, so you’ll just have to do your best over the next two years and hope for the best. Best of luck to you!
