Can I still get into a top school college? - Issues with classes - PLEASE HELP!

VHSlearning.org is recognized by all the high schools in my area. Whatever online course you took may also be accepted. Checking this is a priority.

Again the guidance counselor can explain the scheduling problems.

This is not that complicated. The multiple posts would indicate some anxiety so maybe it would be good to talk to someone. The guidance counselor might help address these worries. We don’t really have enough info in my view.

Please discuss this with your school counselor. Where I worked and where I live…and every school district around here…seniors are given priority in terms of course selection and scheduling.

We had a small scheduling issue with one of our kids, and the kid couldn’t get the school counselor to move. So, I contacted the school counselor…and the change was made quickly. Perhaps get your parents involved in this schedule thing.

You don’t need AP History if it isn’t offered when you need it. You just need plain vanilla history, and I don’t understand why this is so complicated for you. Your guidance counselor does not want you spinning your wheels if this is an easy fix- sign up for US history!

I think our priority is a combination of graduation requirements (which comes back to the question asked a few times but I don’t think answered yet about whether US history is required), seniors, and “strong” academic classes (iow, something like APUSH would be prioritized over an elective). But I agree with getting parents involved if necessary - it just seems odd that a core class keeps getting the short end of scheduling.

I’d hesitate to make that recommendation without knowing the whole story. And it seems to me the OP has opted not to share the whole story.

I don’t think the school isn’t giving priority to core. I highly doubt the USH options are AP or nothing. A school isn’t obligated to make AP available for everyone.

As the OP stated, part was preference. If USH is the 10th grade norm, then it’s highly unlikely (although not impossible) that the master schedule had AP USH in conflict with other core classes typically taken by gifted sophomores. So IMO, one of several things happened - and the OP can correct me if I’m wrong:

  • OP didn’t make the academic cut for AP
  • APUSH had a schedule conflict with a non-core elective —band, CS etc
  • OP was also taking a course at a higher level than other gifted sophomores, e.g. calc, Spanish V
  • OP doubled up on another core subject

Having, for wherever reason, not been scheduled for APUSH, she opted not to be put info an available section of regular USH and chose to take it online to avoid the pimple-on-an-elephant’s-ass impact of a single unweighted class on a 4 year GPA. And if that was the reason, that’s not a good look.
Putting aside the waste of taking APUSH after completing regular USH, I don’t think inviting mom to go full Karen is the solution. OP needs to talk to the GC about what she needs to graduate, if anything. If she is determined to still need USH, she’s not owed AP

This student has taken US History. The school should honor that in the transcript, or the student can send that record separately. Talk to guidance. This isn’t a big problem.

Those of us who have experienced scheduling problems in small schools understand that it can be impossible to get all the classes you want over the years. It is not necessarily fixable. Hence either online or dual enrollment as a solution.

Guidance can explain to colleges regardless of how the grade for the online course gets sent.

Yes/no question:
will your online US history course appear on your transcript and count for graduation?
