Can no longer pay for college, should I take a gap year or go to community college?

Yes but starting at a CC means no scholarship at VTech therefore 2 years as full pay, OOS tuition at the CC + 2 years as full pay, OOS tuition at VTech.*
WAY more expensive than taking a gap year while your parents establish residency in VA so that you can get instate tuition and you raise your test scores to get a 4-year merit scholarship.
We’re talking tens of thousands of dollars in difference.

  • I just checked the tuition both at instate and OOS rates: At NOVA CC, you would pay a $6,000 surchage per year for being OOS + $40,000/year at VTech for OOS v. $22,000 instate = ($12,000) + (36,000) =$48,000 more than if you just wait and take a gap year. The $22,000 instate costs at VTech could be further discounted if you have good ACT or SAT scores.
