Canadian Native but US citizen bc Husband (Wi)

I hate to tell you this, but for your son to play in D1 baseball where there are scholarships, he’ll have to be one of the top players in BC. Kids who are being recruited in D1 baseball have already been on college’s coaches radar for a few years. The average NCAA Division I baseball team has a roster of 35 players but only a maximum of 11.7 athletic scholarships available. This means the average award covers only about 1/3 of annual college costs and this assumes the sport is fully funded at the sponsoring school.
If he wants to play college baseball and able to play in Div3, then perhaps his chances of acceptance will increase, but there’s no athletic scholarships in D3.

Unless you can get significant merit or need based financial aid, I think you can’t beat the cost in Canadian universities.

Thanks for the advice! The coaches at the local Unis have come to see him play as well as a couple of other players on his team. They have encouraged him to try out for the NAIG National team and he plans to compete in 2020! There will be some scouts at those events, I think as well as the DBack’s InterTribal in the Summer. Not sure how many scouts attend that event but local university coaches strongly recommended that he attend to get some ‘good looks’. He’ll have to keep his grades up and then take the PSAT to see how he stacks up as a scholar. I am looking forward to the Diamond Backs event to get a grip on some information. Also he will attend the Native American College Horizons Program which hosts top schools that scout Native American Students, we should get a better sense of where he stands there too.
