Cannot apply to more ED schools - Help needed

Our student applied to a very early ED school and is deferred. That means the ED agreement is now released. However, when trying to apply to an ED1 school, Common App will not allow it as the system says the ED can only apply to 1 school. Does anyone know how to solve this?

You can only apply ED 1 to one school. He’d now have to apply ED 2

I know someone who applied very early ED1 to Wake Forest and was deferred in time to ED1 somewhere else. I’m not sure how they did it (this was two years ago). I would suggest maybe call the new school you want to ED to now and see if they can accommodate.

Or maybe call the first school and ask them if they can release you from ED1 on the common app.

I think @Bruno99 has good advice - contact the school you want to ed1 to. You could at least apply RD to the school via the common app. Maybe then the school would let you complete the ED1 agreement separately, outside the Common App. I would think it would be in their interest to allow this.

Step 1 is to talk with your HS counselor. They, along with you and your parents, will have to sign the second ED1 agreement. Directly work with the college you want to ED1 to now. Call the school and tell them what you want to do. They will likely tell you to apply EA (if they have it) or RD before the ED1 deadline and they will make the change to ED1 in their system. Then you, your parents, and HS counselor will have to sign another ED agreement before the ED1 deadline.

Good luck.

Are you referring to UChicago’s “ED0”?

It’s so new and unique that common app might not know how to deal with it.

Talk with the HS guidance counselor and the AO at the college to see if a second ED1 application can be filed (even if it means creating a workaround).

If the second ED1 college has its own application (in addition to accepting the common app), that may provide a way around the issue.

In addition, Wake Forest has rolling ED1 with most students receiving an admission decision by Oct 31, so if a student is deferred or denied by WFU, they can still have time to get another ED1 app in.

It was ED 0 though. And we received a note of release in the letter so ED 1 or ED2 are options.

Yes, exactly. And when you are deferred they specifically say you are release from your ED agreement.

Makes sense. Sounds like the way to go.
