I hear you. I am a single mom. My daughter doesn’t know her dad, last time we saw him she was a toddler. I am in that range where we don’t meet any diversity criteria, make just enough so we get very little or nothing for aid, but was not able to save as much as most of her dual parent income friends. She is an amazing student and kid. Tons of schools are crossed off her list because of the affordability issue. As people in my income range know, we pay high taxes but get zero of the “benefits.” Any schools that require info from both parents are off our list. He has high assets as a business owner but would never contribute a penny. Schools with the no merit awards “we make it affordable for everyone” aren’t actually talking to us. Those schools are crossed off the list. We will make it work somehow. More opportunity for the rest of you… She’s out of the competition at many of the top schools because of cost.
