Can't get hired by McDonald's = Fail?

Keep looking for other opportunities. I worked at Mcdonalds many years ago. I’ve had many jobs in retail, factories, you name it. Mcdonalds was by far my worst experience. Maybe it was the mgt (didn’t trust anyone). Maybe it was because they made me wear ugly uniforms with pants that were too short for me. Maybe it was because I had to take a stupid written test on everything, even french fries. Or because I always had to ask “would you like fries with that?”. Or because they accused me of taking food when I was just delivering a tray to a customer. Absolutely dreadful.
Watch Super Size Me and it will make this job even less attractive.
Find a job at Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s
Ooops…I’m showing my colors. But really though, it was the WORST job I’ve ever had. And I’ve had some doozies…
So don’t feel too bad that they didn’t call you back. Look elsewhere and keep positive.

I’ve applied to 12 places for jobs. One of them hired me, only because my uncle is friends with my boss and could ask him to hire me. None of the other ones contacted me, ever, even though they said that they would.

Don’t take it personally. Most minimum-wage jobs don’t care about your academic/athletic/musical/etc. merit.

How old are you? Most places won’t hire under 18 since you need working papers, and you can’t work past or before certain hours if you are under 18.

Summer jobs are non-existent here. My son’s friends are only employed if they had jobs they could return to from last summer–like life guarding. They’ve all applied everywhere, but we are in an area where there have been some factory lay-offs and some reduced work hours so those people are picking up hourly jobs to fill in the gap. If Target can hire an adult who will be around as long as they need them then they aren’t as likely to hire somebody who is leaving town in a couple of months. We have a ridiculous number of fast food restaurants in the area and normally they hire continually–but not anymore. It’s not you–it’s the economy. My son also thought McDonalds would always be there as an option but it’s not.

S2 is attending summer sch. in his college town. He thought he would be able to find a job there since thousands of students had left town (and their jobs) for the summer. So far, no luck.
He worked as a cashier/bagger at a big chain gro. store all through h.s. as did S1 who was able to continue w/same store in diff. college town 3 yrs. ago. When S2 went to this gro/ store near his college, he was told their weren’t hiring.

Miracle of miracles, my D (just finished freshman year of college in another city) actually got a job from one of those online thingys. She’s working at a local retailer, after signing up to receive emails about local job openings. I thought it wouldn’t work, but it did! Have you tried that?

Are you still in HS? Are you 18?
