I have a State Farm agent here in Illinois, if you’d like another agent’s name.
I agree that it’s YOUR party. You are not being paid to plan a party for someone, you are the host.
UPDATE
@gosmom - Thank you SO much (and everyone else who chimed in) for suggesting the tweet. Funny how that works - I just got a phone call from our agent himself. He said it’s the first time in 30 years he’s ever had a complaint filed against his agency. So he called the regional office and spoke with someone trying to figure out where things went bad. As he kept asking questions, i.e., what about alcohol being served, what about the honored guest not being my daughter, etc., they told him the underwriter who told our agent’s office staff member was wrong and that there was absolutely nothing wrong with what I was asking for - it was very doable. I guess the agent got very mad with them, and they admitted that underwriter had already been fired, so it was someone at the regional office who was incompetent. And I ‘get’ that that kind of stuff happens. But if his office staff had known better, they wouldn’t have even had to call the regional office underwriter to ask about this - in talking to many people, this kind of request is not unusual.
At any rate, the agent was going to call the cultural center directly and speak with the director about what exactly it is that she needs from our agent. He said the coverage would run either $35 or $50 depending on how much coverage I wanted, either $350K or $1M. So this is exactly in line with what the director had been telling me it would run for coverage.
So while I’m very pleased that I don’t have to go outside of State Farm and pay quadruple what they offer, I still contend that this could have been handled a little differently and I shouldn’t have had to do all this leg work.
I’m just SO very grateful it’s fixed and I can forget about it for now!
My only thought, if the million dollar coverage is 50 bucks, go for it, I would recommend having as much liability coverage as possible, you never know, and I wouldn’t count on the good will of anyone who god forbid gets hurt or something at your event.
So glad it worked out @teriwtt! It’s too bad you had to “shame” them to get the ball rolling on doing something that should have been straightforward in the first place. But phew!
Glad it worked out!
@musicprnt - you bet I’m going to take the larger coverage for an extra $15. The fact that this guy even knew I had options for coverage amount says he did his homework before calling me. I do think I owe it to some people at State Farm to go back and respond to my tweet, that they resolved the issue for me.
Wow! Best argument yet for starting a Twitter account.
Not only is it not “unusual”, it is extremely common. That’s why I’d fire the agent, for incompetence. If he didn’t know this simple thing, what else have you been (over?) paying for???
Glad it worked out for you. I knew there had to have been a “misunderstanding” somewhere along the chain.
No need to fire the agent. If you are worried that you’ve been overpaying on other things, make an appointment to have the agent himself go over all your policies with you. Be prepared for him to try to sell you additional products.
Glad and worked out and thanks for the education, teriwtt. Good to know about this option.
