CAP21 Ending? A Message from Dean Campbell to CAP21 Admitted Students

This development is interesting, as it does not really come as a surprise, but is merely a sign of the times. It is the ongoing discussion whether or not to “outsource expertise” or “develop such expertise in-house”.

You see this on a regular basis in large companies where people outsource customer service, purchase order management, training, global logistics, and even manufacturing etc.

I understand that the reason why Tisch first used the “outside studio” concept, was to have a more diverse and intense offering of different techniques and training styles. It became an important reason why many students opted to study Drama at Tisch, as one could pursue multiple techniques. Managing outside studios comes with a different set of challenges however, and it appears that Tisch at this point in time feels that they can do a better job, or at least match what is currently being offered, with full control and authority. While it remains to be seen if that is indeed the case, it is obvious that Tisch has a lot at stake, which prompts me to believe that they will pull out all the stops to make things work.
