Cape Cod Late Summer

Glad you found something! Getting an early start is important. We’ve rented in a few places (in Bourne / Falmouth area). It has seemed that most rentals are Saturday→Saturday … was that what you found when looking for this year?

When we picked dates before Labor Day, most indicated that it must be a 7-day rental. There were a few scattered options. As soon as Labor Day hit, we could rent with three or five day minimums.

When I looked in early August, the requirement seemed to be Sat-Sat or Sun-Sun.

We have a Weds to Weds starting before Labor Day and ending after Labor Day.

AirBnB.

This is actually good. You won’t be trying to drive on or off Cape on either weekend day…when the traffic will be…awful.

If you stay in that area, make sure to to bring the kid to Chatham to check out the Where the Sidewalk Ends book store and then head over to the fishing pier to see the seals.

There are fun things to do all over Cape Cod. If you want to add the town, we can make suggestions.

Another source of rentals on the Cape is ‘We Need a Vacation’. (I have no affiliation; have used them with no problems.) Consider Cape Cod pond rentals. We have found a pond front rental with a tree shaded sandy beach (and on-site paddle boards and kayaks) very fun and convenient with young kids. No need to load up cars and search for a space. If the nearest beach is a drive from your rental, be sure to check out parking regulations. Some beaches have limited parking and may require a town resident sticker. Have a great time.

Love the Cape! We have stayed in Brewster and Orleans more recently. My criteria is always to be able walk to a bay beach and a shortish bike ride to the rail trail. Even with teen/adult kids we tend to spend more time at the Bay beaches as they are less windy and the ocean is often too cold for me! Hope you have a great time!

Truro used to have a nude beach

Ah, a nude beach is not on my wishlist!

Look up Longnook Beach  Another onomatopoeia :stuck_out_tongue:

OMG that brings back memories of going to the Cape when I was in college with my boyfriend’s family and having his father go to and return from the nude beach. I’m pretty sure he was covered with a towel when he returned but…not what I was expecting!!

You might also take a look at Cape Ann - Rockport or Gloucester.

It is closer to the airport – with no traffic, 45 minutes to Gloucester versus 1 hour 48 minutes to Wellfleet.

My sense is that, due to the bridge, driving to the Cape is more likely to be nightmarish than driving to Cape Ann.

Plum Cove Beach in Gloucester would work well for a two-year old, IMO.

Scroll up. The OP has already made their Cape Cod reservations…Wednesday before Labor Day to the Wednesday after Labor Day. At least they won’t be driving over the bridge on the weekend!

Glad the OP found a plce!

Husband’s family is organizing a celebration of life for a tbd Saturday in June, not too far from Bourne bridge. Many of us are from out of town and hope to rent a house together. When we’ve done this in July/Aug, we run into the Sat–>Sat restrictions. I’m hoping in June it will be easier to do fewer night. Or maybe get a good deal for a week (ideally starting Friday) because only we two retirees can stay the whole week… it gets hard knowing the fair way to split the costs.

Not sure where you will be but look maybe in Plymouth just off cape, or Sandwich.

We just did a family weekend for a celebration of life in South Carolina.

The cost was divided to per person per night. Some were couples, some were singles. Some stayed three nights and some stayed two. Some might not find it “fair” but it seemed to work for all of us.

where did you choose to be?? Which town?

Barnstable/ near Hyannis.

We found a house that has the right combination of what we need in terms of bedrooms, bathrooms and accessibility to the activities we want.

It should be fine. (I’ve stayed in Hyannis, Dennis, and Chatham on prior visits).

In our case, if 7 nights required and most of the others can only stay 2 or 3 nights… it could get tricky for picking fair cost split. I’m not too worried about it though, since these family shared stays get paid for out of my husband’s inheiritance account / debit card. I won’t see the bill in our own budgets, won’t mind if we pay more since staying longer. And I think the deceased parents are smiling from heaven when we get together.

Cape Cod lingo… based on “arm” anatomy, lol - still have to think about it though we’ve been visiting for decades

Note - Cape Cod is in MA, south of Boston (also on the Atlantic)
