Car buying advice

I just bought a 14 year old Lexus with 85K mikes in April and it is the best car I’ve ever had, even though all my other cars have been brand new, most-popular-model Toyota’s and Honda’s. $5k

@bookworm it’s a dark grey with light grey interior. It’s a huge change from my sunshine yellow fit, but beggars can’t be choosers, and I’m just glad it’s not white, black, or silver.

2018 Civic CPO for less than a new Accent is a fantastic buy, congratulations to OP!

On an side note to continue an earlier point, if it’s true that certain models of used cars are almost the same price as new, then it would be worth investigating how much the new model would lease for. Leases are based in large part on the differential of the new price vs the used price at the end of the lease (“cap cost” vs “residual”), so if that differential is low then the lease should be quite cheap.

@anomander it is true that leases were a better price than buying in every instance we looked. We couldn’t lease because of the kind of mileage we do- my Fit was 3 years old, bought brand new, and had almost 120,000 miles on it. Definitely important to look at the fine print on a lease.

I see you already bought so too late but for anyone else reading this thread, we used a website fightingchance, com and were very happy with the result. A friend recently used them and were also happy.

I have bought 2 used and 1 new and have had no problems with either option, all cars have performed well. Honda’s are nice cars. Congrats!

Wow—you DO put on a lot of miles! Glad you will have a reliable car!

We bought a 2014 CRV in 2017. It was in great shape and we were only the second owners. The guy who bought brand new was retired and didn’t drive it all that much and did all the maintenance at the dealership we bought it at. It was a great deal!
