Car Buying Help Needed

That must be something new about having to say it’s “pre owned” just because they are moving it from one dealership to another. Many years ago we were getting a car that was in a neighboring state but we were buying it in our state. There was no mention of it being anything but new. Never titled anywhere else afaik.

If you’re looking at the car on the dealer website, call and make sure it is still available and give them a deposit so they hold the car for you.

In college I made extra money by driving dealer exchanges from one dealer to another. They were definitely still new cars then, but that was many decades ago.

There will likely be additional ad valorem tax implications in buying and retitling the car in a different state which could be less than the transport charge, kind of depends on how the states tax. Note: I was thinking about my son buying his car in SC and retitling in Alabama but it was not new, so not the same I guess, but I’d check that out anyway.

Yeah I’m not buying dealer trade cars are not new. They might be buying at auction which then are pre owned, but which are still never titled. OEMs dump inventory if they have too much or it’s poorly configured at auction.

So something was amiss with the comment on dealer traded vehicles not being new. But if sold at auction to a dealer, then yes they’d be considered pre owned.
