Car Rental in the United Kingdom: Driving on the Other Side

I am Scottish living in the US for 15 years and regularly fly into Edinburgh. My 2 cents:

We found the cheapest way to rent through travelocity in the US, or Hertz to guarantee automatic Edi has automatic cars and it is worth getting. I learned to drive in the UK with a stick shift, but much prefer the automatic- one less thing to worry about.

Watch the jet lag while driving- it can hit even the experienced driver. Spend a night or 2 in the city, Edinburgh has so much to see and you don’t need a car to get around.

When we first moved to the US, someone told me to remember that the driver should always be in the middle of the road. Seems obvious- but when you get a little turned around it does help.

Check your credit card auto insurance.

The drive from Edi to the borders is beautiful, but depending on the route you choose is single lane roads, be careful not to attempt this at night especially if you are jet lagged.

let me know if yo have any specific questions, happy to help. I lived in Edinburgh for 7 years.
