Care Package for soon-to-be-empty nester

Make sure she knows how to use Skype. Even the occasional call (trying to balance the student’s need for finding her own way, etc.) is quite helpful. My own kid wasn’t all that good about calling us the first semester, but got better as he became more confident, etc. Checking in and knowing all is well was BIG for me.

For your sister to know you understand her conflicting emotions makes you a great sis!

…Just got a mental picture of my freshman dorm…the long line of girls waiting to use the one PAY phone (on the floor) for our weekly Sunday afternoon call…The times, they are achangin’…

My sister lives in CA and I live in CT. We have done a few “sister-dates” through the years – once in Minneapolis, where we cruised the Mall of America; once in Dallas, where we toured the Book Depository; and most recently at her house, while her DH was on a trip himself. Really fun.

OP, I just started The Hunger Games and it’s turning out to be a great read. It’s a trilogy, so I’m planning on it keeping me busy for a while.

Love the idea of a long-weekend getaway, just the two of you.
