Carnegie Mellon Summer Academy for Math and Science (SAMS) and AP/EA 2018

I have started the process for SAMS and am just waiting for my letters of recommendation and my PSAT scores (which come out the week of Dec. 10th). I wonder if I have any chance of getting in, I think my essays are ok… my letters of rec should be fantastic, I am a 4:00 UW GPA.

I just received my acceptance into SAMS. Super excited!!!

@ak2018 I would love to ask you some questions concerning the SAMS program if you have time

Applying to SAMS soon and am wondering when we can see the prompts for the supplementals? Currently only have access to the application and want to start working on the supplementals as soon as I can.

Also, what is the difference between the CS and Engineering track, what are projects that each track generally work on?

Thanks!

@darkermuppet Would you happen to know the short answer prompts for this year?

@nb1556

  1. Identify and reflect on an issue affecting your community. In what way(s), might a STEM-related discipline improve the issue you’ve identified?

  3. Tell us about a significant challenge you’ve encountered and how you have overcome it. What values and skills did you learn in the process?
  4. Please discuss how and why you became interested in STEM. In what way(s) is your interest in STEM supported in your high school?
  5. How would attending to the Summer Academy for Math and Science at Carnegie Mellon University support your academic and career goals? How would you contribute to the success of the program?

what are your stats?

Hello! I’m applying to both the SAMS program and the AI program and I wanted to know my chances of getting in. I’m an African American female from a low-income community. I go to a college prep school where I have a 3.8 GPA. I’m taking AP Computer Science currently and have done numerous programs/internships in the past that have reflected that. I’m a good writer, so my essays will be great. I’ll be getting a letter of recommendation from my AP CS teacher, too, which should also be good. My PSAT score, however, is pretty low (1180). Do I have a good chance of getting in?

Thanks!

Hello,

I have been recently submitting my application materials for the SAMS application. However, after submitting my final essay, I have been locked out of uploading any more items. As I have yet to upload my transcript, I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to resolve this. I have contacted support but I fear the holiday weekend will keep them from contacting me before the deadline.

Thanks!

@cryptoderes thank you so much

When is the application due

anyone knows how many spots are there for AI?

the application is due February 1st (I think) but it is a rolling acceptance and the sooner you can get your application in the higher chance of getting accepted.

You have great Stats… Good luck!

@darkermuppet How did you submit the essays/transcript? I can’t find the page :confused:

Have you created a login and started the application?https://admission.enrollment.cmu.edu/pages/access-sams

Hi everyone! I am an Asian female from a pretty high income family. Are the chances for being accepted low?

Hello! For some reason, I couldn’t find the SAMs page on the CMU website during the Fall and just found out its still happening.
I’m a female, half-Asian, in a middle income family. My grades are decent right now, they were alot better last year.
What are my chances?

can anyone share their stats if you were admitted this year?

@celestialkairos Hi, can I ask, how was your experience of the AI4ALL program? Was it well run / academically challenging? Who led / taught classes? Any interesting projects / did you feel like you learnt a lot? How were the dorms / food etc? I really enjoy comp sci and I’ve done some online programming courses already, and I’m looking for something interesting and challenging.
