Yeah I got the email as well and I highly doubt it means anything. I got a similar email from Harvey Mudd a few days ago

@archimedes17 did you accept your spot on the waitlist? It basically said that the waitlist will be active throughout may, and that they will begin accepting people on a rolling basis from may 4.
@janu2481 Yes, I chose the priority waitlist and just submitted my waitlist reply form yesterday
@archimedes17 ahh you submitted the form yesterday and the email said “we have received your update form”… you’ll probably get it soon
Each undergraduate school at CMU has its own separate admissions so there’s probably separate waitl lists.
do you guys think I have even a small chance being a student with a lot of financial need?

completely depends on your profile! i would say that cmu will prob prioritize full-pay students, especially because of covid, but don’t lose hope !! make sure you’re on the priority waitlist fosho
Has anyone received an email regarding another essay that we need to write for the priority wait list? I haven’t received one but according to older forums they had to write another essay.

Thank you! I applied to MCS Bio, International student, sat score not too great, but I think I had decent ECs, good essays and LORs. The thing is I had a huge amount of financial need and was sure I wasn’t getting in but I did, so don’t lose hope!
